Sergey Tokarev: IT Education is more accessible In Ukraine

IT education has become more accessible in Ukraine despite the full-scale invasion of Russia. The Ukrainian higher institution in technology, SET University, has opened great opportunities for Ukrainians to obtain quality knowledge and receive grants to cover the tuition fee. The со-founder of Roosh and SET University founder, Sergey Tokarev spoke about the potential of the university and ongoing scholarship programs.

What’s new from SET University?

With the purpose of growing IT-savvy people in Ukraine, SET University has opened ten grant places for studying in two master’s programs. These programs are “Cyber Defense” and “Computer Science and Innovation Engineering.” Sergey Tokarev notes that Ukrainian students can obtain free and quality technological education due to these scholarships. The scholarship programs cover from 70% to 90% of tuition fees.

What do Master’s programs include?

The Master’s programs involve studying cyber defense, blockchain technologies, and artificial intelligence. Some modules of the programs include technology project management. Students will have an opportunity to choose the subject of their theses: whether to tailor a tech solution for IT companies or develop a startup in a university accelerator.

Sergey Tokarev underlined that he initiated and funded five garant places in person for students of Master’s and Micromaster’s courses. He believes that good quality education is the key to a better future.

Who can apply for the scholarships?

The scholarship programs were not created for nothing. The project team considered every detail to make tech education more accessible to the Ukrainian people. They outlined potential applicants to receive grants. They are:

  • Children of combatants;
  • Ukrainian women who seek to develop in IT;
  • Internally displaced persons who have left the temporarily occupied territories or war zones;
  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine (both active servicemen and those in reserve or retired).

Who funds scholarships?

Sergey Tokarev initiates many projects where he strives to create a favorable environment for Ukrainians to study IT and attracts investors and other entrepreneurs to contribute to the IT trend in Ukraine. Thus, a few individuals and companies participate in funding scholarships at SET University. Also, the UC Berkeley Fisher Center for Business Analytics at the University of California, Berkeley is engaged in entrepreneurial programs.

Is this the only project initiated by SET University?

SET University is an innovative non-profit educational institution that educates future technology industry leaders. It regularly conducts various events and workshops devoted to IT development and growth.

Last month, the university launched a three-day course for Ukrainian women called “Leading with Confidence in the AI World.” It was a free training conducted by Gauthier Vasseur, a director and professor at the UC Berkeley Fisher Center for Business Analytics. The event was initiated together with the UC Berkeley Fisher Center for Business Analytics at the University of California, Berkeley.
